When it rains it pours
Tuesday my wife followed me in while I dropped her car off for brakes and exhaust work. She was driving my truck and on the way to taking me to work it died at a stoplight.

We got it running went a block when it died again. Luckily I was in the parking lot at work and a coworker drove her to her office.
I started the truck and revved it up seemed to run fine until I let off the pedal and it would die. Had it towed in and after a day of diagnostics they found the camshaft position sensor was bad. Fixed it that night and now it runs great again.
Anybody else have this happen? 2001 Ford F250 SD diesel (7.3l) with 54,000 miles on it.

Mine made it to about 45,000 miles. Same exact symptoms. Mine got to where it would run for about 15 seconds then die no matter what. I called the dealer in the AM and told them what it was, they took 2 days of "diagnostics" (i.e. rental car fees) to determine it was the CPS  . I really wish GasGasMan lived & worked in Austin!!!

BTW Oldguy you may want to pick up a spare and have it in the truck. I'm getting back up in miles again so I may take a trip to the International dealer an get one (same piece LOTS less $$$) so I have it handy. It's a one bolt affair if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, this is very common on International engines. They claimed at one point that the front gear covers were not of consistent thickness, so they started selling a shim kit to get the proper spacing from the end of the sensor to the cam. Many cps are adjustable but not the Int. The International part # for the sensor is 1807339c2 and shim kit 1841521c91. As far as getting stuff from Ford, I woudn't even try it. I would call the Int dealer and see if it's a ford part or International. Some of the electrical stuff is Ford only, but the majority of it is supplied by International. A good International parts guy will know right away when you ask whether it will be Ford or not. IE glow plug harness Ford only, etc, etc. Good luck!
