How hard to find ktm parts? How expensive?

I am giving serious consideration to buying a 2000-2002 ktm 250 or 300 exc. But, I heard that the ktm parts are expensive and hard to get. Is this true? Does anyone have a good source for them?

Well, maybe this is a sign that I shouldn't get a ktm........ I tried to join ktm talk and I couldn't because my email account is a free one and that is against the rules. So, because of that, I can't join ktm talk!! Can you believe that!! So, I guess I'll refer back to the original question...... I'm gonna need advice from you guys because it looks like I'm not allowed to seek it elsewhere!!

There are TONS of shops out there for getting KTM parts. I have a '99, and really have no problem getting anything. Of course, the bikes are very reliable, so I haven't had to buy much. It only gets difficult when you start looking for graphics. The older models don't have much available.
Do a Google search for KTM parts, etc.

As far as price, they aren't any more expensive than other bikes. Back in the mid 90's this might have been a problem, but KTM has really stepped up and kept up their stock and made the prices reasonable.

Get a regular e-mail account and sign up for ktmtalk. The information there is worth the price.

Ktm 250sx 2002

I have a 2002 250sx still on the original piston I have only changed the rings once. KTM parts are awesome. The only thing I needed to do is loctite a bunch of bolts. I ride race tracks in Utah, Ca and I live in Vegas. Best bike I ever owned!
One of the fastest too!

What I have seen at KTM talk..it is not as good as here. There are plenty of good dealers around. tell me where you live and I will give you a tip/

KTM parts are much less expensive than say Suzuki. And I actually believe the KTM shops do a better job at stocking the parts that most people need.

the reason for not being able to sign up with a free email account is the problem of people who use those for spam. no offense fuzz but if you eant info on ktm there really is only 1 place to go.ktmtalk.

ktmtalk is the bomb for brand-specific info. i have read several posts that stated ktmtalk was the main reason the poster bought a ktm, cuz it was so easy to get information on. i don't know if there is something similar for other brands.

the expensive/hard-to-find line is total BS. especially with the internet. if your local dealer is lame, there are several good ones that ship quickly and stock tons.

thats because KTM makes there bikes smart,the same shift levers,rear brake levers,cables,fenders etc,they share alot of parts from 125 to 300's.

To answer my own original question, now that I own a ktm, I have found that parts are neither hard to find, nor expensive.

Ktm parts are relatively the same in comparison-
sure some are higher and some are lower....
what specific parts would you need directly from KTM?
chains and sprockets are aftermarket- ktm pistons are good but you don't need them very often....
In fact, i purchase most of my riding items and needs directly from a KTM shop. I must say that they are well stocked compared to the honda, kawasaki and yamaha shops i have dealt with in the past.
KTM is a little different than a jap bike, some stuff better and some not...but i am very happy with my ktms now that the pricing has fallen in line wiuth the japanese brands
