I'm assuming I have this right but I thought I better check. When buying a paddle tire, what is the rule? More paddles for higher CC's or fewer paddles. I ride a KX 500 and I am thinking I should get the 10 or 12 paddle tire, not the 8 paddle tire. Is this correct or am I backwards in my thinking? :think
I got a Husky 610 with a 12-paddle.......fun. When I bought it the salesman tried to tell me that it was too big and would hurt the clutch, but he hasn't ever ridden a Husky. My KTM 300 has a 8-paddle, and I wouldn't go any bigger on it. But a 500 should probable run a 10-paddle, maybe a 12 just because they look cool:debil:
You're clutch will thank you for the 8 paddle anymore paddles and you can possibly tear up the clutch and basket, I have seen alot of people do it at the dunes, I had a 94 and 96 kx 500 and never had problems with the 8 paddle!!!!just my opinion!!!
12 paddle for sure. I run a 10 on my 250, and I have never had a clutch problem. It is far smoother feeling than the 8 I used to run. My friend ran an 8 on his kx500, and it doesn't hook up worth a darn. Mo' is better methinks.
I'm thinking I will go with 12. Armchair speculation has me thinking that the 8 would be harder on the clutch due to the more intermittent grabbing by the widely spaced paddles. Also, if a 500 can't handle the 12 paddle, what bike are they for?
But then I've never ridden with one so I'm just theorizing. :)
