it depends on how and where you ride and if you race. I just got an 04 cr 250 and plan to keep it for at least 4 years.

Rode a can am 400 for 2 years till it froze up and sold it, went to a 84cr250 cause i bought it as a basket case, rode and wrecked it till i came into some $ then bought a yz250 and still have it. Dont think I'll get rid of it cause i just love it.

Old School

I still have my 1991 RM250 and its 90% of what any new 2 stroke is capable of. The power has not increased significantly, the biggest changes have been to the frame and suspension settings but i dont SX i just race around with friends in the dezert and dunes. Paid $1000 for it and it runs cherry i just keep up the maintainence on it myself. My best friend has an 01 CR250 and i keep up with him just fine. Ill buy a new bike after im done with school. Maybe 2 bikes? A 250F and go to the track and a CR500 motor in a new CR250 frame for the Dunes ; )
