My local mechanic tells me he aways uses an impact wrench to tighten the clutch basket hub nut. I asked what about applying the correct torque as recommended in the owners manual ? He said when you use a 1/2 inch impact wrench the nut will be tight enough !

What do you guys think ? Use an impact wrench and make the nut tight or just use a torque wrench and some clutch basket holder and tighten according to the manufactures specifications ?

thanks in advance,
Tom

I have seen them tightened(and undone) with an air driven impact wrench, it does work but you have very little idea what torque it gets tightened to. It is always better to use a torque wrench, but if you don't have one with the right capacity then impact wrench will do.

I take a used metal clutch plate from the bike

the edge

viola - custom clutch holding tool

Thats a great idea.

I have done it, my gun goes to 600 Ft/LB @ 90 PSI, thats "tight enough" for me

Tight enough??? Sounds like a movie I once saw. All kidding aside use a torque wrench to get it tight enough. I use an electric and it works great.
