I just ordered a new shock spring and I got to thinking about it.. Do I have to disassemble the shock to put the spring on? For some reason I was thinking that I could just loosen the collars all the way then slide the spring off the top, then I realized that the shock resevior would get in the way.

What is the easiest way to do this?

You have to remove the shock from the bike. There is no way around it I'm afraid. Another thing to remember is to separate the rubber bumper from its metal seat, cup shaped under the bumper, to remove the big collar around it. It's hard to explain but you'll see. Good luck!
