well after about 5 or 6 hours of use on my new 2005 yz250f i decided to take out the airfilter and inspect. i was almost completly dry and the filter had almost no oil in it. i was noticing particles inside the filter as well as small blades of grass. im sure my bike injested some. would small particles of grass and stuff hurt the engine or cause defects or would the small grass particles blow right through and out the exhaust?

Well if its just tiny particles it wont hurt it, but if something that will harm the motor gets in there you will know real quick. Take ur filter re-oil it and put a sealing grease on the ring were ur air filter goes. If you dont have any sealing grease use patroilium gelly.

It wouldn't hurt if you washed it, re-oiled it and re-installed it. However, there are better options than a stock Yamaha filter. Check out the super seal "greaseless" base on the filters made by www.mooseracing.com . Once I tried one, I've never greased another filter.
