I believe the IT175 had become an IT200 by then (1982)?

The first year of the IT200 was '84.

The IT 175 was made from '77 to '83. The oldest ones have the exhaust pipe on the left side. The newer ones have the exhaust on the right side. What parts did you order? While I think the bike got two major renovations between '77 and '83, there might be some things that interchange.

1980 on top

1983 in middle

1977 on the bottom

FWIW, with the exception of a front disc brake, the much newer RT180 seems quite similar to the '80 IT175.

Wow another Yamaha ID question!

5X8 051740 was a 1983 IT175K.

(5X8 was also the prefix for 1982, but they had a lower serial number.)

Have you checked for a vacum leak? If you are sucking in more air from a leak the only way the motor would run would be to add more fuel-such as full choke. Spray some WD40 around the carb manifold/gasket area while the engine is running and listen for a change in rpm's.

bradball, do what cbmain said, and also spray it around the base gasket and head gasket. I thought that guy cleaned the carb and it worked fine. Also, check the inline fule filter, fule lines and blow some air past the jets and let the jets soak over night. Otherwise this is just getting me.
