Is there a difference between 2001 kx 65 and 2004 kx 65?

Most newer models in bikes are different from the older models. Some times the new models only have new plastic or new graphics. I don't know about the kx65 though.

newer 65s have disk brakes while the older ones have drums. and some new 65 have inverted forks and a few other differences. but as far as motor goes theyre pretty much the same.

Find me one of those KX65's with the inverted forks!!! That way I won't be spending $1650 on the Marzocchi Shiver setup.

Basically the KX65 is unchanged (01' to 07') 06' and later had a lighter stater and maybe a slight change in ignition curve. And I'm pretty sure the "65" has always had disc brakes unlike the "60".

He's right, except that somewhere between 01 and 06 the piston got changed, and 06 added a gripper seat cover. There have been no significant changes since the KX65 began it's life.

I want to see any evidence that a KX65 ever came from the factory with a drum brake at either end.

I think they changed the piston in '03 when they changed the exhaust porting to accomidate the smaller web.
BTW - I did a little checking, and I do believe the pipe is different also.
I do think however thet you can use any part from a newer model on an older model.

You all are mising major points.

03 is the first year of the adjustable forks and rear shock. Different linkage also accompanied.

Pipes are different 00-02, then 03-04 and I think 05+

Seats changed in 06 to the green/black. Frame went to silver somewhere in about the same time frame.

That's the green and black one.

My 02 and 06 share the same adjustability on both the fork and shock (rebound only). Paint color does not constitute a change (so it is NOT a "major point), if it does, then so the the annual graphic re-designs. The pipe may not have been mentioned in this thread, but it was mentioned in another very recent one.

I was recently in a discussion with another 65 dad, and remembered that the current bars are wider than the early ones. I can't remember which year it happened.

02 kx 65 exhaust system

I guess my point is I am cleaning out my garage and I have some 2001 KX 65 stuff laying around - FMF fatty exhaust
w/muffler for example - trying to make exhaust more sellable on **** -
So that 2001 kx 65 exhaust will only fit 2000 thru 2002?

Thanks
