Suzuki Press Release:

2003 125 East Supercross Champion, Branden Jesseman, sustained a wrist injury while practicing last Friday. Jesseman underwent surgery yesterday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) to repair ligaments in his left wrist.

“I’m disappointed that I won’t get to defend my supercross title, but I’m thankful that I have access to the best specialists in the country at UPMC,” said Jesseman. “Initially, the emergency room in California misdiagnosed my injury, so it was nice to come back to Pittsburgh and see my hand specialist, Dr. Goitz. He’s someone I know I can trust.”

As for when he will return to competition, Jesseman is taking his cue from another great champion: Ricky Carmichael. “At the press conference before the first Anaheim race, Carmichael said he was going to take his time recovering from his ACL injury and not turn a three month injury into a season long injury. I feel the same way. I will race again when I’m 100%."

“In the meantime, I will be at plenty of supercross races signing autographs and cheering for my 125 teammates, Broc Hepler and Davi Millsaps,” said Jesseman."

I feel bad for Branden, who has been a hometown hero for the past few years, but I know that he will fight hard and return strong (I've seen him ride since he was 13-14). The UPMC orthopedic team is incredible. In 1999, I shattered my left wrist racing. The ER said that I would probably need to have my wrist fused, or amputated, due to the nerve damage. After a 9hr surguery, cadaver donations, titanium hardware, and a few months PT, my orthopedic (Dr. Rogal) had graced me with full use of my wrist. I'm faster today than I was 5 years ago. Branden will come back strong and determined, I've seen him do it before.

Rogal is one of the best. You just can't go by his appearance. :) I have also used Dr. Waltrip out of his office now and have been very pleased.
