What to Do with Pit Monkey's Life

Get as much education as you can possibly afford and then some. As you pass by all the doors of life you will find that the more education you have the more doors are open. It sounds as if you have a technical bent and that has always been a good way to make a living and there is always a good demand. ...Present times notwithstanding......

If full time schooling is not in the budget go to work for a company with education bennies ( most have them ) and you can get smart over time. Ride On....

smb-

IT from ohio university! Actually, my girlfriend is still down there so i ride (and get lost) at wayne national quite a bit. i won't be riding it again this year, but next spring i'll be there.
don't worry about the late start. if you would've chosen IT from the start you'd still be in the same boat. I declared it my freshman year and wasn't able to take many classes till my third year. my piece of advice- take as many of Deno and McCuistion's classes as you can. tooling, machine, cnc, and gd&t knowledge work together very well when you're on the job.
how is the job market for current grads? are they having trouble?

since this i a thread about what people do, i'll kick in my .02.
i'm a project engineer for a dimensional engineering company. for the last two years i've been on the design and engineering team for the new hummer h2. i did all the measurement plans for the sheetmetal checking fixtures and cmm routines. now that we're building trucks i'm recieving measurement data from my routines and using it to troubleshoot build and process problems. i also do tooling evaluations and buy-offs to make sure that everything conforms to the paperwork (gd&t and process sheets).
it keeps me busy, but not too busy to read about dirtbikes.

ah McCuistion, he's my advisor!
I don't know about the gd&t stuff, he threw a bit of that in during IT102 and I absolutely dreaded it. I might actually know you though, I've been dabbling in IT since early 2000. I'm taking a few of Reeves' courses this year, lovely stuff :silly:
There are a few co-ops for IT's, but not as many as there used to be. I haven't heard anyone complaining about lack of employment though. Sounds like you've got a great job though.
