5) Do you think you will race ?
just agianst my buddies.....thats it
6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work?
yes, i do all my own maintainance
7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)?
4 stroke.......well, i want reliability. so wahtever that is
8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry?
kawi, yamaha, honda, suzuki all of them are close
9) How much ($) do you plan to spend on a bike?

You forgot to mention your weight. Assuming you are in proportion to your height I would reccomend the CRF450X (not "R") You said you will be doing 75% trail riding with no plans to race. The "X" model will better suit your needs.

I have ridden Kawis my entire life excluding the best bike I have ever raced IMO....my CR125. I love Hondas! In the 450 class nothing can hold a candle to it.

Well, the X's are a little expensive.
Thats why I wanted the Race bikes. Should I go with the 450 or the 250???

I say you should go with a 450 since you have experience on an XR400. But, I wouldn't recommend a full on MX 450. Pick up one of the off-road/trail 450's that have MX worthy suspension.

KLX450R
CRF450X
WR450F if you would go Yamaha

The CRF450X is 31 pounds heavier than the 450R.
The KLX450R is 33 pounds heavier than the 450F.

They are lighter than your XR400 but not a considerable amount. They will feel lighter because they have more power and better ergonomics.
