The pipes that are out for the kdx 200 are for 1989 and above but dg makes one for 1988 but I heard they werent going to make them any more. So can you take an 1989 and weld on the exhaust flange from an 1988 to make it work on the 1989 pipe from companies like pro circuit.

In 89 the motors went to liquid cooled, are the stock pipes similar?

I believe that something could be worked out depending on how close they are to begin with. Pipes are basically bands of sheet metal welded in a pipe and of course built or tuned to the horsepower/torque requirements of the motor.

That brings up an interesting point, has anyone ever thought about making a pipe? Maybe out of stainless?

The 88 and older pipes are substantially different size and shape wise. You could probably tweak it into shape but I think it would really hurt the tuning of the pipe.

These are links to ebay auctions (just for the pictures)

89-93 pipe

Its hard to tell but the 87 pipe shown here comes up way higher up on the bike than the 89 pipe. You might see if JasonWho pops into this thread, he's got an 87(?) and a 94 I believe.

the stainless could be welded with a tig welder and it would be nice but to get the curves in the pipe you would need a english wheel.

The url is http://www.dynoport.com/dirtbikes.html That takes you DynoPorts homepage. From the thread I posted it looks like gn83tm had to call them, it wasn't a stock listed on the page kinda item. At the bottom of the page is the contact info, give them a call and let us know what you find out.
