KIPS stuck, because of O-rings???

I have an '89 KDX200 SR.

I am rebuilding the top end and after torqing the head the KIPS valves won't operate by hand. After taking the head back off they operate fine.

There are O-rings on top of the collars that top the valves. Are these supposed to be there? The States side bike do not have these O-rings. I suspect that the pressure of the head on the O-rings is causing the valves to stick.

Thanks for your help,

Rodney

Yes, the O rings are supposed to be there on the SR models.

I have a 1989 KDX200 F1 which is the Australian version of the SR and it has the O rings. I've had no problems with the valves sticking.

I presume that you have cleaned the KIPS valves and operating rod of carbon!

The coolant passages look a bit rusty - what coolant are you using?

Cheers.

Yes it is a bit rusty. I always checked the color of the coolant in the radiator and it was nice and green. But during a complete rebuild I found that the thermostat was broken and the water was not being properly circulated, or maybe not at all...hence the rusty fluid below in the water pump and nice green fluid on top in the radiators. I will use a flush before putting new fluid in.
