My son's KLX110 runs well only if I leave it on choke. When I take off the choke, it sputters quite a bit, especially in 2nd and 3rd gears. Any ideas on what I should check first?

Try the easy things first. :)

Try a new spark plug first. It might have fouled a plug.

If that doesn't work then maybe the carb.

If it only runs when the choke is on, it sounds like it's lean. Fuel starvation, even.

If after the new plug, it still does that, try cleaning the carb.

Clean the card the right way, just get a can of a good cleaner (CRC, Berryman's, etc...) and disassemble it and spray all the passages and parts (be careful not to get a face full from blowback).
