Last year I bought my son a new KLX300R to learn to ride on (he was 15). It's a great bike being an old school 4 stroke, but I think that model has shift star issues. The shift star has rounded ends and not nice pointy ends for a positive feel. Consequently he finds neutral more than he should, and the bike can pop out of second gear when he has just shifted up. Stroker used to make a shift star that fixed the problem, but you can't get them anymore. Does anyone know of an alternative source? I think they may have just modified a standard star (not sure). Has anyone modified one for their KLX300 and had any luck?

joburble, while i don´t have any experience with the KLX300 you can polish all the shifting mechanism (not only the star) and maybe put a bit stonger spring or cut a bit the original one.
this normally helps older, weared out bikes. but thats the first time i heard on new japanese bikes. (pretty comon on italian bikes though  )
