I'm considering moving my son to a 105SX instead of jumping up to a 125. He's 14, 5ft 6in, and weighs 110lbs. currently riding an 04 RM85. Anyone have any first hand knowledge of the KTM 105? Seen a used 2004 for sale? I hate to buy a new one since he'll probably be on it only a year.

They certainly rip, there was a vertically challenged guy here racing one in the 125 C class last season and while he was down a touch on power he did just fine. At 5'6" he's plenty big enough for the 125 so why bother?

As Chili said, he's plenty big enough for a 125. I'm the same weight as your son, minus 3 inches on height. I came off of a CR80 straight to a CR125. My brother also came off of a CR80 and went to a CR125. He's 5'4 120. Like you said, he'll be on it a year...if that.

Thanks for the input. The 125 may be the way to go. I wanted to keep him in the mini (super-mini) class for another year if possible just to gain more experience and confidence before racing with the big dogs. He's ridden my 200SX, but isn't very comfortable with it. But of course it's that way with any new bike.

I went through the same thing last year with my son. I would have preferred to leave him on the mini's for another year of experience but he was 5'4" and just too big for his 80 even with the tallest bars we could get. 2 days of practice on the big bike and your son will never want to get on a mini again. My vote would be get him the 125 but make sure you get the suspension redone (springs, valving) for his weight since he's quite light.

yea i have a 105 and its never been raced and completly stock. i am selling it because i out grew it way to fast and it has barely 5 hours riding time. practicly brand new. it is perfect for the situation you are in. email me at bobcatbaseball@comcast.net if you want to talk more about this. my name is joe.
