Guys,

Can anyone help me please. How do I adjust the 'WS' wheel size figure on my digital speedo??? It is supposed to read '2205' briefly when it turns on...

I see the section in my book but don't see how to change it. Maybe you could hit one of the + or - buttons when the number first comes on. If that doesn't work try holding the mode button down for three seconds like you normally do to change or clear stuff on the computer. If all else fails just wait until it gets to the normal screen and keep pressing the mode button. The last option you have is to take the battery out and put it back in, I'm sure you'll have to reset everything and it'll probably let you then but you'll most likely loose all of your saved info like hours and trip.

Found it on KTM Talk:

The same thing happened to me when I replaced the battery. Did you try riding? If you did and the milage and speed is unreal then the computer forgot it's wheel size. After pulling a lot of hair that I can't afford to lose and the manual is no help at all, I most likely accidently found the secret.

First you have to toggle the buttons so the display shows speed and HOURS. From this setting you can toggle through the different functions. I can't tell you what sequence to use as I forgot and really didn't pay attention in my frustration, but when you get to the wheel size you most likely will have to reset to the standard 2250mm or whatever your wheel size is, but 2250 is pretty standard. My display showed something around 550mm. After I reset the wheel size everything went back to normal. It's a shame that for such a nice unit and how expensive it is, it really is a turd. Mine often resets on the trail also, usually when I need it the most as when doing the milage for a trail I laid out.

Thanx mxjosh

I get the display into SPEED & HOURS then I hold down the middle button for 3 seconds to access that mode but on my system there is no Wheel Size 'WS' diplayed for me to adjust. I have access to everything else i.e. AVS1/2, CLK, MAX, etc etc... but no WS.

If you can remember what you did to make yours work - now that would be excellent!!

You are speaking about the speedo on newer EXCs (03/04) and not about the older SIGMA unit, right?
I did a search on this topic in the German forum and there they said that the WS function usually can only be reached with the optional tripmaster remote control switch attached to the speedo. One guy said that WS can be reached when you cut the black wire of the speedo's voltage supply.

I am trying to reset my wheel size as well it was bought with motard wheels & disc. The guy said you clip out the brown & black wires plug the socket back together with those 2 wires not in the socket then seperate the socket replace both wires. This should allow you to change the wheel setting but I have not had any success. So please tell me if you do or if you know another way.

Hi Guys,

I too have just bought a set of motard wheels for my KTM 450EXC (05 model) and was scratching my head as to how to change the Wheel Size setting. After reading your comments on this thread I went and tried just unplugging the 3pin plug that connects into the Digital speedo (the one that has the black, brown and red cables to it). I then just pressed the Mode "O" button to turn it on, then just got into the normal setup menu (holding the O button for 3 secs from the Speed/Hours display I think). The difference now with the cable unplugged is first there is no backlight (because the bike battery is unplugged), and second there is now a WS shown as one of the options.....so you simply press the "O" mode button until the WS option is flashing, then just press the "+" button once to go into the Wheel Size setup screen - it should be showing 2205 if it is still set as factory for a 21" front. Using the "+" and "-" buttons you can just adjust the wheel size to the correct circumference based on whatever you have installed. Note this includes the rubber. I have worked mine out to be about 1822 based on a 17" front rim with a 120/70R17 motard tyre on it. Once you have got the right number set, just hold the mode "O" button for about 3 seconds to save the setting. I then just waited for the unit to turn itself off and then plugged the 3pin cable back in and hey presto, job done.

I have only just done this change and haven't been out on the road to test it, but I will double check it against my GPS to see how accurate it is when take it out. If I make any changes I'll let you know.

For those who are interested in working out the exact figures, the measurements are in millimetres and you can calculate the circumference as wheel diametre (in mm) x pi
(pi = 3.14159265 approx). Hence working the 2205 backwards, a 21" wheel with rubber should have a diametre of about 701mm

So I hope that helps....
