I have done a few searches, but cannot find a page with KTM bike Identification. I have to find one because my friend doesn't know if the engine in his 97 250 exc is from another year. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Take the engine number to a KTM dealer and ask them to figure it out.

Go to ktmamerica and click on resources. This will show what year and everything you need to know about the bike.
