KX-DX project is done! New pipe will be coming, I used the stock one to work out fittment issues. Once it gets banged up I'll put a real pipe on.

People ask why. Well, I wanted a bike with lots of ground clearance, low maintenance, 250 sized suspension, less than 200 pounds, set up for recreational riding/Trails yet full sized, but not a temper mental or race tuned machine with an 18" rear wheel. You know, something easy, powerfull, one kick and go, little to no maintenance, broad power, cheap to maintain yet fun to ride.

I looked around and it did not exist the way I wanted it too. So I built it. 2002 KX125 with 1999 KX250 suspension, KX125 swingarm and 2002 KDX200 motor. Everything is new or rebuilt. The motor top end and bottom end, the whole suspension, every bushing, seal, bearing, bolt washer, nut and race. Even the powder coat is new with clear coat. I skipped new plastic since it will just get trashed though.

The 1999 suspension is becasue in 99-00 the suspension was progressive and was considered overly plush for an MX bike. It was heavily criticized. Yep, just what I am looking for in a trail bike. I used shock linkage from an 02 as it had improved geometry which helps with action especially near bottoming they say. It is a good match for the plush 99 suspension.

The motor and cables are KDX and the rest is KX.

Here are the links along the way. Some have details some are questions. Either way it is a log of the KX/KDX build experience for others to reference.

The results starting with a close up of the Silver metal flake powdercoat with powdercoat clear coat on top.

Wow, you got to be proud of that. Sounds like you put alot of thought into the suspension. I wouldn't be the least surprised if you hit a home run with that combo. Please follow up with a performance review after you put her through the paces. congrats and nice work!!!
