Did anybody see the front page of the LA Times today? There was an article on the Stanislaus National Forest (Nor Cal) and the problems that the local communities around it are having with OHV usage. This stuff really gets my blood boiling. Typical left wing enviro whining. The article (quite long) was heavily biased against "the outlaw dirt biker crowd" at the beginning, but had a bit of balance towards the end. (Not enough though to fairly represent our sport of course, although it did accurately report that we have lost over 50% of our local desert riding areas in the last few years. And pointed out that maybe that's why we're upset) It was on the LA Times website too. Man, we HAVE to band together or we will loose ALL our riding areas before we know what happened. What is going on in this state......

Typical LA Times spin. They can never report any issue without taking a side.Heck, any person unfamilar with OHV issues would definitely think we are all type's who spin "donuts" on people's front lawns and pour premix in mountain streams. Wish we could get Nocal's DRNer's view on the subject.

I know it's not just this state. It just seems like everywhere I turn there's a new fence, a new posted no riding area, new anti OHV rules or meatheads that think like the writer of the times article. Discouraging.... I'll be joining the BRC this week. Waited too long, but I'm not waiting anymore. Bill

Welcome to the battle zone, BRC,CORVA and ARRA are all good places to go and keep your ammo fresh.

One bit of advice, don't wait till you see whites of their eyes, shoot first and ask question later, then shoot'em again.

We must play this game by their rules

As always, JP gives good advise. :thumb:

drBill.

A good place to start is to write a letter to the Editor at the LA Times. Tell the other side of the story.

A lot of people only believe what they read. If they only hear one side of the story, that's what they believe.

They don't know about the off road organizations that do land clean up and help to protect the enviroment. They don't know about all of the fees that we are required to pay to use our OHV's, Green sticker funds, Forest Adventure Passes, park admittence fees, not to mention our taxes that support the USFS and the BLM.

The really sad part is that now, most of the money that we are required to pay goes to fight frivilous law suits. These enviro groups want a certain area shut down, they make some claim that there is some kind of endangered plant or animal there and then they sue. The Forest Service and the BLM does not have the funds to fight them, so, they just shut the land down.

We lose, the agencys lose, the enviro's get their way and their attorneys walk away fat and happy. :| To me this is not an enviromental issue this is a socialist issue. These people just want their way.

Worst of all, the money that is supposed to go to protect the land and the species is redirected into the pockets of their attorneys.

Several of these ohv groups that JP mentioned, along with the AMA, The American Sand Assn., and others are now hiring their own attorneys to counter sue. They are hiring experts to do studys on the so called endangered plant or animal and finding out that a lot of these claims are false.

So, if you want to help, join one of these groups and send them as much money as you can afford and also write the paper and give them the other side of the story. :thumb:
