Lobbyists & Interest Groups vs. ORV?

Hi everybody!

I'm doing a term paper for my American Government class and my topic is "Lobbyists and Interest Groups". I was wondering if anybody here knows of any specific interest groups who are currently lobbying in Congress against ORV (specifically dirtbike) use? I only need the names of the groups and/or people; I can do the research on them myself. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Nate

Well, number one on the list would have to be the Sierra Club. Click the Blue Ribbon Coalition (BRC) link in my sig line and you can get all kinds of education on the many organizations out there trying to take away our access to public lands.

Washington Trails Assn. in Washington State hates dirt bikes and has proven that in court a few time.

Scary thing is that I had a SUWA person come to my door with a petition. I explained that we mountian bike, dirt bike, etc. and weren't interested and she tried telling me that SUWA is all for recreationalists and we just "misinterpret" the groups actions, so I should still sign her petition. Disturbing thing is wondering how many people she convinces...

How about some of the 'consumer protection' groups?

That's another good area to look into. My main focus was going to be on environmentalist groups, etc...but the 'consumer protection' people can be just as big of a problem. My professor actually suggested that I go to the Federal Trade Commission website and snoop around in there. She said I'd probably find some interesting information there.
