This was forwarded to me. This is a chance to get on the trail early and do good for all at the same time.

REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEER HELP
*************************************************

ORV trail volunteers:

For those of you who are interested in doing volunteer work on some of the very best motorized multiple-use trails in the state, please read on.

1. TRAIL LOG-OUT HELP REQUESTED:
The Entiat Ranger District (Wenatchee National Forest) is requesting help from trail volunteers with chainsaw experience to clear and log-out trails on the district over the next 3-6 weeks. The district staff has discovered much heavier than normal downed trees on the trails this year and needs help to get the trails open and ready for summer use. Complicating matters is the fact that the district made an earlier decision this year not to contract out some the log-out work and to instead use their in-house trail crews to try and get some of the maintenance work done that the contractors have been missing each year.

If you are available to help or are already planning a volunteer trail work party in the area, please contact Randy McLandress at the numbers below so that he can direct you to the trails and areas still in need of clearing.

Alternate contact: Tom Graham (same phone number as above)

2. CHAINSAW CERTIFICATION CLASS:
To help faciliate the volunteer effort, the district has also scheduled a chain saw certification class for June 29/30. The class start time will be 09:00 am sharp at the Entiat Ranger District office.

If there's anyone who just needs to be recertified (you have successfully completed the class room portion before), the district will arrange to have trail crew personal go out with you to do some log out and get recertified in the field also on Saturday the 29th.

For the those taking the Saturday class room instruction (~6 hours), the field test part will be on Sunday. If you can't be there for both days (Sat & Sun), the district will arrange for you to do the field test at a latter date.

To take the class, please RSVP with the district office or Randy (509-784-1511) as soon as possible and no latter then Thursday the 27th.

If you are going to use a chainsaw, yes. If you're just going to help clear the trails by other means then I don't think you'd have to attend the class... don't quote me though. Just call them and double check.
