Is there a minimum weight for AMA 125 classes? Last weekend in the NC/TN indoor series, a very fast mini-rider rode an 85cc based bike in 125B class. For this particular track design (no whoops, very tight turns) the shorter wheelbased/lighter bike seemed to have an advantage over the larger bikes. (Not taking anything away from the kid that rode it, he is unbelievably fast and could probably win the class on a larger bike.) The power to weight ratio appeared to be as good or better than the larger bikes. For example, the 85 could easily clear a double from the inside of a corner, that one pro (that has qualified for Supercross mains) clipped several times on a 250F. Just curious about the weight rules on the class.

There is no wieght minimums but there are rules pertaining to bike size and what can be rode in what class. A 85cc normal size (not a big wheel) is not a legal 125 bike. So wheel size and overall length etc. are the problem.

Look at your ama rule book for more details
