Hi all,

looking for some identification information. My brother in law bought a rm125 from a mutual friend and he is not sure of the year. It is a mid to late 80's and there is no identifying marks on the fram or motor other than the 54mm stroke and some other measurements. The bike is front disc rear drum with inverted forks. There are yellow plastic fork tubes protectors that wrap around the top of the forks. Does anyone have any ideas on what year this bike may be, or any items to look for to determine the year.

thanks,
Tdel

pre 86 or 87 would be my guess. That is the years they went to a rear disc. If my memory serves me right.

Tdel, my 87 had conventional forks, front disc, and rear drum. By the way you describe where the fork protectors/boots are, it would seem they are not inverted forks. Can you post a picture?

From what I see on the page I posted 87's the last year of rear drum brakes, And 90 thru 95 had inverted forks with disk brakes in the back
Sounds like someone did some part swapping on the bike
Good Luck

I got this from s search on a different web site maybe it will help if the frame has a VIN on it.

How to find out the model year of my Suzuki?

It is quite easy if your bike is made for the American market and it's from the eighties or newer. You only need to find the identification plate with the VIN number somewhere on the frame of your bike. The tenth (10th) digit in the vehicles VIN code tells the model year of your bike, using the the following year codes:

80-A 81-B 82-C 83-D 84-E 85-F 86-G 87-H 88-J 89-K

90-L 91-M 92-N 93-P 94-R 95-S 96-T 97-V 98-W 99-X

00-Y 01-1 02-2 03-3 04-4 05-5
