I used to have one of those back in the early eighties. I still regret selling that bike. Mine was a mongrel of a bike with a '79 frame/chassis and '78 engine. It was a great running bike and very reliable..........set up for woods riding with an ignition from an enduro model.
The hot setup was to mate a 250 5 speed transmission with a 360 or 414 top end (the open class bikes were 4 speeds).
Sorry but I can't help you with the suspension questions as mine had Marzochi forks and Tony D Gasser shocks.
