In my journey to gain a little extra power, I baught the v-force reed system along with the FMF fatty and the FMF powercore II. At the same time I did a top-end rebuild. The paper work that came with the exhaust system recommended that I re-jet to a 165 main and a 52 pilot jet. It also said to use the 2nd clip position. Well, I went and baught these jets and to my supprise these jets are already in my carb. Even the clip pos is the same (2nd). The pipe also came with this little spacer and it recommended that I put it inline with my power valve "to reduce the dip in power" I havn't put it in yet, but I went riding after installing all this stuff and wasn't really impressed. There didnt really seem to be a dramatic change in the power. The spark plug looked good too. Is there any thing I might have missed? Or is that just about all im going to get out of this kx250?

Well, I did post some advice but it appears to have been deleted. Why not stay green and get the KX500? It's more powerful than the CR, too.

well although i agree that the kx500 has a better broader powerband..may not be more "powerfull".the one thing the cr does have though is...updated plastics/styling...well atleast 90's styling.. where as the kx looks like an 80's bike :(
but i added all the same stuff to my rm250 as you did to your bike ..and i aswell didnt notice a big jump in power...i however do not recommend a 500 unless your heavy...they just tire you out to fast...great fun for 20 minutes...then you wish you were back on your lil' 250..

Bolt-ons, bolt-ons, bolt-ons.
Why not skip the bolt-ons and go straight for the big-bore kit (change that 250 into a beastly 280) or get it stroked?

BTW: The CR500AF BLOWS the KX500 out of the water. Period.

or use the cylinder from a 05-07 kx. i read in a book that when honda is testing they lay out the cylinders from a few years and the riders test them all, each one having different power characteristics.

Heck yeah the 500's are more powerful. A typical later model 250 is around 45-48 hp. A KX500 pushes 60-65 hp. CR500's push 55+ hp.

come on man, both 250 2ts and 450 4ts are 50+ hp. a cr500 has gotta have more than 55.

From the dyno sheet post of years ago, a CR500 (blue) vs. a CRF450R (purple). I believe the posting said the 450 was stock and the 500 was probably stock as well. The 500's make supprisingly little horsepower for their size because it's difficult to scavenge that large of a cylinder with underpiston supercharing and because they just don't do very many rpm. The 500's do 7000something rpm while the 450f's do 11000+.

250 wto stroke about 46-48hp
450 four stroke about 49-51hp
cr500.......................55-59hp


just think how much faster a crf450 feels than a cr250 and then think of how much faster a cr500 would feel than a crf450.............a cr500 makes its power at 5000-6000 and aos makes more torqure so it feels instant no waiting till 11000rpms just twist and get 60hp :yikes:
