I am making a memories type DVD for my parents 40th Anniversary and I need some ideas for music to play while the old photos go flashing by. I need some ideas and I know all of you can come up with some pretty good ones.

Lay them on me!

Thanks Mike

Any idea on what songs they might have played at their wedding??? Or atleast songs from that era. Any relatives that could let you know? That's what I'd go with as my first choice.

Sounds like a great project. Songs from their wedding (first dance?) would be excellent.

How long is the show?

Will the pictures be just of them (couples songs), or lots of pics with friends and familiy?

Do you want emotional, bring a tear to the eye kind of songs, or do you want happy up beat, peppy songs?

What kind of music do they like?

You could have a set of birthday party pics from their children's birthdays and use "Celebrate" by Kool and the Gang.

What are their ages?
If the pics cover a lot of years, you could start with music from the "early" years and end with more current. Figuring out what decades/years the pics are from would be (my) step one. Then find pop stuff from those times.

Good questions ... 40 years means they got married during the birth of rock music, correct?

Were they "young" or "old" for their age when they got married?

Get them talking and I bet they will answer many of your questions for you. I assume this is to be a surprise.

Tell us what you pick.

First off, yes this is a surprise. I originally wanted it to be just pictures of them but someone I work with made the obvoious statement that for the past 40 years my brothers and I were part of their lives (at least 37 years for me :) I then realized that if I didn't include pictures of all of us that the memories they had relating to those pictures that this project wouldn't be complete. I am not putting in pictures that they were not a part of just ones they were involved with.

I DO NOT want to play each one of these songs out from beginning to end but have small sections of them to keep the mood changing and progressing. I have a lot of pictures but I think no one will get bored if I keep changing the music. I am grouping them into appropriate categories so the music fits the pictures. This is what I have so far.

1. Well, I have their wedding (first dance) song. Currently I am using

2. "Why do fools fall in love" for their early courting pictures that I have.

3. "Memories" My Dad likes Barbra Streisand (YUCK!) I'd love to replace that one

4. "Centerfield" For all the teams that my Dad coached (Baseball, football, etc.)

5. "Hopelessly Devoted to you" For pictures of them together plus myself and my brothers with our wives

6. "We are family" for the group shots

7. "Sailing" Christopher Cross for all their going away on a trip pictures

8. "Bad Boys" for early pictures of me and my brothers growing up.

9. A little snipet of the "Motocrossed" theme song for a few pics of us riding because my parents were the ones who took us riding when we couldn't drive.

10. "Bad Day" For the NUMEROUS pictures of us with casts, splints, or in hospital beds (my parents are included in that one)

11. "My Love" Lionel Richie for more pictures of them together

12. "Through the years" Kenny Rogers for all the other shots of us all growing up.

I think this is a good bunch but if you all have any better ones I am open ears. I would like to swap something out for the Streisand one.

I was also thinking about "When I'm 64" by the Beatles because My Mom is 64 and my Dad will be 64 later this year.

I would suggest:

1. "In My Life" by the Beatles
2. "We'll Meet Again" by Johnny Cash (you might want to play it during recent pictures of your parents)

great idea to make a memories movie for them!

My wife is doing a similar project for her parents 40th, and she says her favorite song she is using is "Remember When" by Allen Jackson.

CaNaDiAn,Eh?

Might want to look into some songs by Eric Clapton, like Layla (either unplugged or original depending on mood you want to go for) or maybe Wondeful Tonight...ect. All of the suggestions so far are really good.Oh and there is also Pride and Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughan,Time of Your Life by Green Day is good but overused,Good Times Bad Times by Led Zeppelin, My Front Porch Looking In by Lonestar (the other country suggestions are really good as well)....ect
