Need help with barrel problem

Hi people i have a problem with my barrel. :(

I stripped my top end to day so i could order my piston. But when i removed the barrel i found.

Above the power valve about 1 or 2cm of the chrome has started to come away.

I have come to the conclusion that the bike has been stripped down for a piston replacement and the last owner has found this problem and rebuilt it. (i know this as there is silicon sealer around the head gasket and they have traded the bike in). :coocoo:

I'm a bit stuck now as i'm not sure which route i go down now :bang:

1. Do i get the bore rechromed
2. or do i get the barrel resleved.

Which of these would be the best route to go down and how much would i be looking at.

Any help would be great as i'm still learning the art of fixing these baby's ;)

if the plating has worn away, it needs to be replated.DO NOT sleeve the cylinder!trust me its not worth the added costs and the sleeve wont last anywhere near as long as a replated cylinder.plus when it needs a new top end,you have to have it bored and a oversize piston installed.with a plated cylinder,as long as the bore is not damaged put in a new piston and ring and your good to go.also there's nothing wrong with using sealer on gaskets to try and make them seal better.as long as they didnt try to fix any other prob with the sealer, i see no harm in using it.about 200 is what your looking at for a replate and sleeving the cylinder will run you close to that with labor and all tacked on.

Ok thanks for that fella.

How long does it take to have a barrel replated then is it a long winded job?

Also so does anybody know anywhere in the uk to have this job done asap?

I don't know about the UK but in the U.S. Eric Gore does a great job with about a one week turn around depending on the time of year. Of course I would never let him replate my cylinder without having him do his head mods as well.

A week that is **** hot. Spoke to a place called langcourts waiting list up to 5 week wtf :ohmy:

I found a place that could be in just over a week or so they say.

Next time i will speek to mr gore. :cool:

As for the head mod there the same as i have done on my car so i will be doing that also. :yeehaw:
