Need input, 98 RM250 Adv/Disadv

I found a prime 98 RM250 that has been garaged its entire life and seen little use. Still has original tires on it. Upgrades include triple clamps, new bars, spark arrestor w/ FMF, gripper seat, updated plastic. Comes with chest protector, helmet, stand and new rear tire.
I don't know anything about 98s or how competitive they were. I'm 6'4", 210lbs and will mainly be trail riding. I'm an intermediate rider. Anything I should be aware of? The good, bad, ugly about 98s?
I can get it for $1500.

I had a 96 which was similiar to 98 and the only thing I didnt really care for was the front forks seemed like they were going to cave in, not sure why, it didnt always happens just on occasion. I believe in 98 they went to a flat top piston as well but dont quote me on that. If its in really nice condition its up to you, you like it then go for it :ride:

Rode a 98 RM125 in the woods for 3 years...great bike. I think the 250's have never been an all mighty power king until about '03, but that's not really needed in the woods anyway. ALL RM's have a soft clutch basket... if it hasn't been replaced already, set aside a couple hundred for one...you WILL need it. Razor sharp turning, but get used to getting your butt over the rear fender when at speed. (I feel the trade-off is worth it.) If the '98 has conventional forks, that's perfect for woods work. Enjoy!

I'm not sure if it has conventional forks or not. A clutch basket isn't too cheap. Tough decision. I'm not good enough for it to matter most likely.
