I have an '89 KDX200 SR. Did a complete rebuild, top/bottom at stock specs (no mods). Started on first kick, ran like a scared rabbit. It has slowly become hard to start, and now has developed a power band like symptom (which it did not have before, but the KIPS were not operating prior to the rebuild). Now it can't get passed the flat spot in the revs (about half way through the revs as far as I can tell). Bottom end is strong.

Thanks,

Rodney

Sounds like the KIPS are not operating again. Did you replace all three valves? Usually its the LH subvalve that shears causing it to jam up. That would definitely cause the condition you mention about flattening out halfway through the revs.

As for the hard start, that could be lots of things. What is the condition of the reeds? Are they new? If not, throw some boyesen 607's in there. Cheap at about $30, and worth the upgrade if you're running the OEM reeds. Check for air leaks around the reed cage and base gasket. Clean the carb out real well.

That's about all I can think of right now. Just woke up...
