Hi Guys - the KDX is going on a diet and one of the first things I am looking at is fitting a rear MX style fender. Does anyone know if the subframe needs to be cut on a 99 model? And if so, do you need to then weld a cross brace for strength? I think the earlier models had a bolt-on job..

Nothing NEEDS to be cut, although I cut the ends off the bars (post cross brace) where you can see them sticking out below the sides of the fender

That would be a KX style fender, MX is short for mototcross.

Yeah, I did the same thing. I cut them and then stuck the plugs back in the cut ends.
