I've been riding street bikes for 8 yrs. Currently I have a CBR 600RR. Last fall I sold my quad that I used to race flat track with. I'm going to pick up my first dirt bike tonight and I'm really excited! Always wanted one, and now here I am and have absolutely no clue what's next;) All my buddies ride quads, so it's going to be a new experience, because I don't have anyone to take pointers and hints from. I got a KX 500 for free and it's in relatively good condition. The guy I got it from is just past his time on a dirtbike and needed to go back to quads. From what I've read so far the KX500 is not a starter bike, but for free you can't complain. I still have all my gear from racing quads but want to know simple hints like if knee pads and elbow pads are worth having for trail riding, and simple starter info.

Any helpful tips and hints would be appreciated...

Once again I'm really excited for the season to come around so I can finally be apart of the fun!
