rickyd, in "The gods must be crazy" does the guy ride a bicycle really fast, like it looks funny how fast he goes?

Hmm Can't really remember, the best part is when the Jeep gets hung from the tree, if that helps.. I checked on NetFlix.com, they have it in stock..

Cool, thanks guys, I'll make a list. I did not expect this thread to end up 5 pages long though! I haven't seen many of your suggestions.
I have seen Heat many times, that was a great movie.
And American Graffiti too--my hot rodding buddies watched that about every friday night back in high school.
Same with Pulp Fiction--one of my good friends watches it over and over, that's a good show too.
I haven't seen Blade Runner in ages!! I will have to go and re-watch that one.
I have not seen Last of the Mohicans, but I do have a few songs from the soundtrack on a mixture CD a friend burned for me with instrumental stuff. Definitely great music.

Big Fish

I saw Big Fish, and found it to be a very creative and "different" kind of movie. I think it would have a broad appeal as far as age groups are concerned.

BTW - I didn't think it was a tear jerker - the ending was too close to reality (for me).

Hmmm, some favorite movies from throughout time, in no particular order:

Full Metal Jacket (go figure!)
Platoon
Goodfellas
Godfather 1 & 2
Apocalypse Now
Pulp Fiction
The Professional
Rushmore
Office Space
Saving Silverman (or anything with Jack Black in it...)
Sixteen Candles
Breakfast Club
Better Off Dead
The Sure Thing
Say Anything
(any of the 80's John Cusak movies)
Three O'Clock High
La Femme Nakita (the french one)
River's Edge (very dark and disturbing)
Vacation
Christmas Vacation
Raizing Arizona
Clerks
Predator (did I just say that?)
Midnight Run
Vision Quest
The Blues Brothers
Mad Max (the first one)
Highlander (the first one)
First Blood (the first one)
Robocop (the first one)

There's tons more I'm prolly forgetting. And, as a rule, I loathe sequels. And I seem to be stuck in the 80's for the most part, too...

I was a big fan of the Matrix trilogy's too, but everybody who was going to see those, probably already has. I'll second The Last of the Mohican's. If you like Daniel Day Lewis, you should rent Gangs of New York. I really liked it, but it didn't get rave reviews, and I heard a lot of ppl say that they didn't care for it. I prefer to watch these so called "bad movies" and make an opinion of my own. One of those that really was bad was the Hugh Grant movie ( I think it was called ) "Something about love". It was the last one he made with the girl from Bend it like Beckham and Pirates of the Caribbean ( a frickin awesome movie by the way ), Kiera Knightley. I was very disappointed in it because I generally like Hugh Grant movies, like About a Boy which was great, you should check it out also.

One of my other all time fav's would have to be Ocean's 11. The dialogue in that movie is the great. The actor's all seem to be having fun making the movie, which makes it much more fun to watch, I think. If you haven't seen it, it's well worth the rent.

Raizing Arizona

Wow, someone actually shares my sense of humor! :thumb:

Gale: Alright you Hayseeds it's a stickup! Everybody freeze. Everybody down on the ground."

Hayseed: Well, which is it Young Feller? You want I should freeze or get down on the ground? I mean to say, if'n I freeze I can't rightly drop. And if'n I drop, I'm gonna be in motion. Y'see...

Gale: Shut up!

Hayseed: Ok then.

I love that scene!

John Goodman was so good in that movie. He did some really great stuff right around that time period. Raising Arizona, Aracnophobia, the Babe Ruth thing (don't remember the title).

How about "History of the World"

King (Holding a shot gun): My people, they love me.......PULL. (as two peasants come off the skeet launcher)

Lots of great one liners...

MANHUNTER

Hey Wibby; that Manhunter movie is an all-time great. The final scene with the music by Iron Butterfly never fails to make my hair stand up! It is starting to get a little dated, but holds up pretty well.

It was directed by Michael Mann, who also directed "Mohicans" and "Heat", both of which have been discussed in this thread.

Good stuff. :thumb:

Unless, of course, you're typecast & damn good at the role (aka creepyguy Steve Buscemi).

Oh but Zio, in Ghost World, he was 'sweet, lonely, older weird-looking slightly dusty-with isolationist mentality-guy'

...a far cry from creepy guy, ya know.

Damn good one, by the way.

Cold Mountain is a 'Chick Flick' full of very bad accents.

Try Amores Perros / City of God / Taxi / Rabbit Proof Fence if you want to get away from 'Hollywood' mainstream. 100's more if you like those (start with City of God - fantastic)

Another good one I haven't seen mentioned here yet is High Fidelity, it's a quirky love-comedy, nothing exciting but quite comical.

And let's not forget Gross Point Blank. The fight scene at the reunion is one of my favorites. It just seemed so real compared to the usual Hollywood types.
