hey guys, i am starting riding again after many years of not riding and i was thinking of getting a CR250, but now I'm not so sure. should i get a 250 or 125? I am 5'9.5" and weight 165lbs. I would like to race someday. so far I am looking at a 1997 CR250 and a 1997 YZ125. they are both modded, but the YZ is loaded to the bone.

Give us a # on those years. What did you ride before? At the most for a beginer I'd get the 125 between the 125 and 250(not considering the brand). What are you going to ride, the trails, the track, or what? Would you look at some other bikes? If not whats the mods and how much?

Heres my take on the 125vs250 battle,
Are you mature? Both a 125 and a 250 have enough power to get you into trouble, but the 250 will do it faster. Where are you riding the bike? Woods? MX? If MX, both will do fine, but woods, the 250 would be a much better choice for a MATURE rider. If you dont respect the bike, you can get really hurt, and these injuries are giving our sport a bad name. My first bike was a KX125, and I started out riding mostly woods and trails. I loved the bike, and still do, BUT after about 2 months of riding I wish I had bought the RM250 I was planning on buying. I started going to the track after 6 months, and the 125 did great there, but In the woods I wanted the low end of a 250, so I bought a 450 :P

While I know there are some on here that really liked the 97 CR250 there also alot who felt that 1st generation aluminum frame was way too stiff and a nightmare bike.

OK, if you want to go fast get the 125. If you want to go really fast get the 250.:)

Do you want something you can control or something more challenging. You could take either but it depends mostly on how old and mature you are. Oh, and how fast you want to go.:)
