I've been a street bike rider since 1988. Starting from my first to my current bikes: 1980 KZ1000 LTD(13yrs), 2002 Yamaha FZ-1(1yr), 2003 HD Superglide(1yr), 2006 HD Streeglide(current street bike), 2003 KLX300R(first and current dirt dog). With almost twenty years of street experience one might think it is easy to jump into the dirt. All in all, I think that it has definitely helped, but the ten or so years of sledding has been a big contributer also. The most help I think is the recent mountain biking, reading a trail (loose rocks, mud, angle of roots/limbs/trees) can easily be remembered when the vehicle is powered by one-self! Never thought I would enjoy a dirt bike as much as I have tho!!! I just picked up a 2003 KLX300R for $1600 w/helmet. Not a bad deal considering the accessories that came on the bike. One BIG thing that I am learning from this site is the importance of good riding boots. I guess its time to hang-up my work boots!
