Just purchased a '97 KX 250 and would like to know what the ideal/standard setup is ie. jetting, air, sprockets etc. It came with a full FMF Gold series pipe and currently running 13/48 sprockets. I find it very quick through the gears (holding on like hell) and am in top gear before i know it, with little top end.
Appreciate any info, many thanks...

Sounds like youve got it dialed in, dont mess with it. If you want more top end, try a smaller rear sprocket. Enjoy

the 97 was a powerful bike that does lack some topend compared to some others, but I would not go to any taller gearing than that if you plan on riding MX, the motor must be short shifted to be the most effective on the track. I think you will be happy with it once you have put a little more time in on it, from what I understand it was one of the best KX's ever.
