Sorry I've already asked this question on the "pitbike / mini" forum but didn't get much info.

My son is ready to move up from his SUZUKI JR50 and he has been riding the local mx track lately and been in one race. I've found a decent price on a 2002 KTM SX 50 Senior. It's too big for him now so I plan to change his sproket on the JR and leave him on that until he fits the KTM.

The reason I started him riding was to ride trails and backroads with me, he does and loves it. He seems really dedicated to track riding now as well.

My question is will the race KTM be any good on the trails? I'm thinking reliability and fuel capacity. I'm a mechanic and don't mind the maintenance but are they tough enough for the trail and will the fuel last for a couple of hours?

Thanks,
James
