I am searching for insight on a decision, i'm selling my stock kdx200 trail bike for a 2 stroke mx bike. I only have 1800$, and I realize that around here i can get maybe a '99-'02 250 for 1800, and a '01-'03 for 1500-1800 dollars. A cheaper 125 could help me learn to ride better, but i am going to be working the bike hard @ 220lbs. But, with the cheaper bike I could possibly pull off a revalve/respring, where as the 250 i could not, but the power would blow me away. I will maintain these bike, I will be riding easy, non-competitive woods and practice+racing mx. Don't rule out the 125 because of my weight, I know a kid on an 85 that weighs 165 pounds, he's very fast. thanks

Id get a 250, get a flywheel weight like me and the thing has a TON of torque, since you wont be riding hard you might not even have to go in the powerband.

250 totaly gets my vote

I want to set this straight - I will not be riding difficult woods, but I plan to race amatuer MX. What I meant to say was I would be doing 50/50, but would not set it up for woods, ride as is.

Sorry, The 250 is a better trail bike but i had alot of fun riding my 85 in the woods. But it seems the lites class is alot harder and more competitive so it might be easyer for you to win on a 250.

But a 125 will still be an upgrade from your kdx

I would say get a 250. I'm around 200 with gear and I used to have a 125. I could do 95% of the jumps on the 125 but the 250 was soooo much easier to make jumps out of a corner or in a rhythem sections. It was a great trail bike unless the hilss were realy steep then then I would have to abuse the clutch. If you plan on any racing someone of our weight on a 125 is going to race against a kid thats 130 pounds wet on a 250f. The power to weight advantage is on their side. A 125 is still ablast to ride but I like them more as playbikes. anyway as long as your riding and having fun it doesnt matter!! just my two cents.

Get the 250, I have a 1995 kx250 and a 2005 kx250, yes the newer one is faster but not too much. My 1995 250 will smoke a newer 125 and I weigh 215. Not that the new 125's are not fun, I just think that with your weight a 250 will serve you well as you will not get board on it.
