1. Middle Creek (Penny Pines). This is just west of Stony Ford and they tie together now thanks to Forest Service (Mendicino Forest). New map out soon. Go 101 north to Ukia and take 20 east to Upper Lake (Clear Lake area). Make left on Elk Mtn Road. Upper Lake Ranger Office 707 275-2361.

2. Forest Hills (near Auburn). This has fast fun trails (1 and 4) and tricky #5. This is all I've ridden so far. 1 and 4 are like long motocross tracks through the woods with fun hills and lots of jumps. 5 is single track and has many obstacles. Take 80 to Auburn and take the Forest Hills Exit. Go about 20 miles south east and look for sign saying Surgar Pine Reservoir. Make left and park at Parker Flat. 3. Elkins Flat. Very dusty now. Lots of intermediate single track. I've only ridden it a little but it seems to be a favorite of many. Take 88 towards Kirkwood from Jackson. Look for sign saying Pi Pi and make left. Follow to Pi Pi and go further to Elkins Flat. Forget about Gold Nob on the way. Amador Ranger Office 209 295-4251

4. Deer Valley. Just a little more up 88 toward Kirkwood. I've got maps but have not ridden here yet. More difficult than Elkins Flat. Amador Ranger Office again

5. Go the Gorman (Hungry Valley) on the way to LA. 300 miles from Lafayette but a lot of fun. Try the desert too. Fun.

Call ranger offices and get maps sent to you. Upper Lake is out of maps for a few months untill they make new ones for both Upper Lake and Stony Ford.

yeah, what he said, only also add georgetown, just across a deep evil canyon from forest hill. to get their, go to auburn, then to cool on 49, then take whatever hwy it is that goes to georgetown. in georgetown, turn left on wentworth springs rd, stop at the ranger station about 3 miles up on right and pick up a completely useless map, then keep going another couple miles until you see signs for mace mill staging area. follow the signs. park. ride.

better yet, join the guys from CERA for a work/ride weekend there, and get some local knowledge as far as the trails. there are a few places that i find pretty difficult, but most of it is reasonably sensible, reasonably interesting riding.
