OEM/wiseco Crank

I am building myself a new engine for my crf250r. It will have a high compression pistion, cylinder porting/combustion chamber relieved, cam, pipe.

I bought a wiseco bottom end kit, although now I have been hearing bad things about them.

I also have another engine bottom end with an oem crank with a year or so run time, hours unknown.

I am unsure if I want to use a good used oem crank bottom end or a new wiseco bottom end.

What do you guys think?

Put in the new wiseco.

FWIW, I'm the kind of guy that would buy a new OEM at a higher price than a new wiseco. But unknown hours vs. brand new is big difference.

I would have bought an oem had I known about all the bad rumors about the wiseco's. But now thats what I have and I don't want to buy an oem and still be stuck with a wiseco.

I Think the bad stuff floating around about Wiseco cranks is regarding the 92-01 CR250 Crank...

I had problem with that one myself and know all about it all too well too I might add.

Its a POS and says right on the box "Made in Taiwan" but ya know something?? The Hot Rods crank says "Made in Taiwan" right on the box too.

I'd bet that they are both made in the same factory by someone who gets paid 50 cents per day...

I've wondered about that because you see these parts on the net and the prices vary so much. Got ta wonder if the el-cheapo's are real or counterfeits.
I went with OEM on the crf450 crank. I know how long it last.

This scam has gone on for quite some time. I highly suspect a now closed shop by me, was pressing the rods their selves, putting them in the box and bam, 150 bucks or more. The blue journals was a dead give away, refurbed. Do not ask where the then mechanic now works. Not to mention the kit rip offs! That run of bad cranks from Wiseco, wasn't that in 05? They were replaced/fixed. It was on the 4 strokes? It is now 2010 at any rate. And also, I thought 1 crank came from Indonesia, and the other Taiwan. Installed correctly, it should be fine.

i know this is an old thread but what kind of problems did you have with your cr250 wiseco crank. im having an issue with mine for a 2000 cr250 and im trying to see how common my issue is.

4 years ago Wiseco had an issue. With some 4 stroke cranks. Since then there are a lot of pirate cranks being bought is another issue. You think it is a Wiseco?
