oil seals, output shaft and shifter

just got a vintage kdx175 (82) for my son. It is leaking oil from the seals (mostly fromthe shifter). What is the best way to remove the old seals? I should have the new parts within a day or two. appreciate any help.

The shift shaft seal can be removed by using a dental pick and if it is still stubborn you can thread a small screw "CAREFULLY" into the side of the seal and use that to remove it.

Thanks mikeb. I kinda suspect that a service shop has some special tool to do it. The dental pick sounds like a good idea. I'll try it.
