I have a 1980 PE175 motor in a 1979 RM125 bike and from reading the manual it recommends a mixing ratio of 20:1. I was talking with a buddy of mine and he suggested that I mix at a higher ratio because my manual is almost 25 years old and oil technology has come a long way since then. If I use a good quality pre-mix, can I run a ratio of say 32:1?

any input would be appreciated

Yes, 32:1 will be fine with a good quality oil. Maxima Super M is my favorite.

32:1 is safe for just about any 2 stroke. I use the Motul 800 now, and also had excellent results with the Super M. Good stuff.

Back in the day I had a 1979 PE 175 (my first new dirt bike). We used Golden Spectro at 32:1. As darringer stated, 32:1 is a safe bet.
