I bought what I was told was a 1976 Suzuki TS250. It had a rusted tank but supposedly runs. I got it for $75 so I don't mind having to put $50 or $100 in it if I have to.

I fixed the rusted tank (see the painful weekend thread). I put gas in it last night and tried to start it.

After 3 kicks is started but would not stay running. I kicked it again and got it to start and it would run for about 3-5 seconds and bog out. It appears that it is not getting gas to flow right.

I am pretty happy that it started a little because now I am almost positive all I will have to do is clean the carb completely and it should run well enough for my wife to putt around on and learn to ride.

Of course I know I need to tear down the carburator but this carb is different than the ones I am used to. It has a push pull throttle assembly and I want to make sure when I take it apart and clean it that I can get it back together.

Is there anyone that can help me as I get stuck this weekend?

Thanks

Ivan,

Send an e-mail directly to OT, he knows these bikes from that era really well.

I also bought a Clymer manual for a TS125, TS400 and 1974, 1980-81 TS250. I hope that it helps. I have heard the Clymer manuals are not the best but I figured it was worth $27 to get one because it was better than having nothing.

I believe parts are still available from Suzuki.  Call one of the Suzuki parts stores that advertise in the back of dirt bike magazines.

I bought the 250 from a friend and he did some work to it a few years ago.  He was able to buy the airbox boot and a few other things for the bike.

Good luck.

Jeff,

Try Midwest Action Cycle, or Cernick's. They've been Suzuki dealers for a long time and have lots of dirtbike experience.
