I have an 01 RM 250 that has got to be the hardest starting 2-stroke I have ever seen. If the bike sits for a week or more, it will be as hard to start as a stalled out four stroke. I can't imagine anything mechanically wrong, but it sure is aggravating. If anyone has any input on what (if anything) might be causing this problem, it would certainly be appreciated. Thanks

And how old is the float valve,it does not last forever and is supposed to be replaced once a year.It can cause underlying problems that the best mechanic in the world does not screw with,he replaces the valve!

Chipped or cracked reeds can make a 2 stroke a bear to start. Make sure they are completely seated against the reed block. Any gap is no good. Also check for any possible air leaks in the intake tract.

I came off riding a four stroke for a couple of years, and my 2 stroke aptitude got lost in the process. I checked the compression and associated carb stuff, but I completely forgot about the reeds. Thanks.
