pipe finish wear

well, the previous owner of my bike put a carbon fiber pipe guard on, and i could hear dirt between it and the pipe if i shifted it. i took it off and noticed some spots of high wear. i was wondering what to do to polish these area's back to the original shine (aftermarket pipe). i was also wondering if there was anything i could do, or put between the guard and the pipe to stop this problem. help appreciated, thanks!

is the pipe a raw finish of a Platinum???

I use a regular metal polish from the local auto parts store, after each ride, and it seems to work good. It keeps the mud from sticking as well.

if you are going to put it back on why does it need to shine?

Just a pipe anyway, function before form when it comes to dirt bikes.

im thinking about keeping it off. i don't want it to rub the finish all the way off and the pipe to get rusty.
