I was wondering if pipes are all they are made out to be. Do they really help that much? Say I stuck a Fatty on my CR80, how significant of a difference would that make?

i think they are. i'm very happy with my fatty, but the difference may not be as good for your cr80 as it was for my kx100

From what I've read here on DRN, the factory pipes are pretty darn good. At least for the full sized bikes.

If you want a dramatic change in powerband, the best thing to do is have the cylinder ported for whatever type of powerband you want.

I just (yesterday) put a fatty on my KX100. I second the vote for making a difference on that bike. I do all east cost woods riding and it feels like I could pull 2nd gear on most of the stuff that did require the hard to manage 1st. I like it so far, but for your bike and other types of riding you should get some more opinions.

I noticed a difference when i installed a FATTY on my KX250, more bottom and more top end.. I'd do it again..

We were going to port a KX100 for low end power for like $50. Got a KDX instead. The Fatty on my 200 definatly makes a differance. Even more with a Garly on a 220.

I don't think I'd spend that money on a 80 since it probably won't be your last bike.
