Gonna tear into the bike shortly but the service manuel is back ordered at the local dealership so i was hoping someone could explain to me the ring gap service limits and how to mesure, ive read somewhere that you put the top ring on the piston and slide it thru the cylinder mesuring the gap at 3/4in intervals but what do you use to mesaure the gap while its down in the cylinder? and what is the maximum safe mesurement to use a stock size piston replacement or have the cylinder redone.

Anyhelp is greatly appreciated.

you take the ring off the piston and put it into the top of the cylinder and use the piston to push it down the cylinder squarely about 12mm down then use feeler guages to measure the gap in the end of the ring.

sevice limit is .65mm
standard is .15-.35mm

cylinder should measure out at 66.026-66.041mm
cylinder sevice limit is 66.1mm

piston diameter is 65.943-65.957
piston sevice limit is 65.80mm measured about 16mm up from bottom of skirt

piston to cylinder clearance is 0.079 to 0.089mm

hope this helps
