I have a '99 and love it. There are good and bad points to any bike. Are there certain things you are wondering about?

I wouldn't say anything more so than any other bike. As long as you keep it maintained with the basics throughout the season...(air filter, oil, chain etc). The amount you ride will decide these things and then go over it during the off season and you should be fine. You should definitely get a manual to help with your maintenance.

I don't know for sure what the specs would be for a 97. I have a 98-99 manual and they're different because they changed the jetting between the two years. But you can probably come close based on this '98 info...
the '98 standard air screw setting is 2 turns out from seated
just off idle if the engine blubbers (rich) turn the air screw out 1/4 turn
if off idle it surges (lean) turn it in 1/4 turn
All adjustments should be made within 1-3 turns, if it's less or more you need to change your slow jet.
Hope this helps.
