My son turns 30 that same weekend. I'm leaning on him to get his XR350 fixed and come play with us. <g>

Can you tell me more details about the ride (type of trail, starting time, whether it's an all-day event, where everyone stays overnight, what we should bring, etc)? Is the ride open to new DRN members (such as moi)?
Thanks!

Sure! It's open to all DRN members, especially the women! This whole thing started 3 years ago (this will be the 4th annual ride) by Firecracker22 as a Ladies Valentines Day ride. "Screw Valentine's Day, Let's go ride!" said the then briefly single FC. ;)

The location selected was Reno! The riding area is located just outside Sparks, NV at a place called Moonrocks.

For more details pay attention to this thread in the Places to Ride Forum:
THREAD

And you can check you this photo album for pictures from the years past:
RENO PICTURES

This thing just keeps getting bigger and better every year. The ride spans the whole weekend, Friday, February 13th thru Sunday, the 15th with some early birds arriving on Thursday, February 12th.

Most attendees stay in Reno in hotels with a majority at the Peppermill Hotel/Casino, www.peppermillreno.com better rates can sometimes be found via some of the discount hotel websites such as expedia.com, hotels.com or cheaprooms.com
Last year was the first year anyone actually camped at the riding area and from what I hear it worked out well. I don’t think anyone was in a tent though. IMO, a trailer or RV is recommended if you want to “camp” at the riding area. If you’re going to stay in a hotel I recommend booking as soon as possible as that is a very popular weekend and rooms book up fast!

The riding area is open desert and is loads of fun! DRN member Strick has played host to us in the past since he is a Reno resident. Sometimes he and some of the locals have marked off courses for ‘beginners’, ‘intermediate’, and ‘advanced’ riders and have been excellent guides.

There will most likely be port-a-potties again this year but that will be the only “amenity” at the riding area.

Recommend bringing a riding jacket, warm gloves and long underwear. The weather was beautiful last year but it has snowed some in the past.

4EO - Pegasus (Ellen) and Marshall usually make the drive down from Oregon, and so do e-Ticket and The Ant! No reason you can't caravan and increase the Oregon Representation!!! I bet your hubby would want to go too, but we'll work on him up at Starvation Ridge next month in case he needs a little encouragement. :)

Okay--reservations at the Peppermill have been made! I'll be riding Friday, Saturday and Sunday! I've never ridden in the desert before, so I'm a bit nervous. But I'm looking forward to meeting some new friends and having some great adventures! :yeehaw:

You've been added to "the list" Kathy! Yay!

Any luck yet 4EverOrange?

Natty, Ellen said she can't make it this year. There is a glimmer of hope since it's still 3.5 months away, but she has a new job and doesn't think she'll be able to get away. :(

I really want to, but guarantee my husband won't commit to any sort of travel in February (in the event that it might be a powder day). If the weather's bad (i.e. dry) we might be able to do it as a last minute thing, though. Sounds like fun!

Hey Altagirl-

If ya can't talk that hubby of yours into missing one single weekend of skiing among MANY during the winter, but you'd like to go to Reno...

then keep in mind that I'm driving right through SLC on my way to Reno in a Tundra pulling a 14-foot box trailer. I'm SURE we can make room for you and your bike.

Afterall...

Spending a weekend skiing in Utah... $100
Spending a weekend riding in Reno with WAY COOL dirt chicks... PRICELESS!!!

I think I'm going to try to come down. Sounds like an awesome time. It will be great to see some of you again and to meet other riders. I haven't made res. yet, but will soon.
A gentleman on another site had posted that Reno is revamping it's freeway system and coming from across town (Peppermill) would be a huge hassle. Has anyone else heard about this?

I might have to take you up on that! I agree with you - spending a weekend riding in Reno with you guys would be awesome!! Well worth the sacrifice of even a powder weekend - did I just say that?

Regarding changing his mind - you have no idea. He's only missed ONE weekend day when Alta was open in the past two years and that was because he was too sick to move and conditions were crap. (I'm pretty close, but have had to work a couple times, had knee surgery, went to a funeral...) And he's the eternal optomist - I'll look at the weather report and say are you kidding - no fresh in weeks, super cold and windy, High pressure locked in place? He'll already have the truck loaded and be bouncing around saying the forecast is wrong - it's probably already snowing up there (like I can't see the mountains from the backyard...) We'll slide down a run or two of rutted up ice, (I'll say I told you so), we'll go home and he'll still be declaring that it'll be snowing any minute... He might be mildly insane, but at least we have fun!

Anyway, He's promised that this winter when conditions are terrible, we'll go riding instead. It's progress, anyway... We typically get well over 100 days a year in anyway - it IS perfectly reasonable to make plans for ONE weekend during the winter!! I'll have to bring it up tonight and see what happens!

Now I'm getting all excited that I'll get some good riding in this winter after all! (whether he comes along or not!) :yeehaw:

Good idea :)

Plus - his friends are always on my side - "So your wife wants to ride dirt bikes all the time... why are you're complaining about this? Do you know what MY wife wants to do this weekend?" It's almost fun. :p

Hey Wendy, there are some people that will be there early to ride on Thursday. Among them will be CJrider and CSL I believe. It's mentioned somewhere in the other thread.
